No, liability insurance is option. However, if you wish to take part in Social Security's pilot certification program, you will be required to purchase liability insurance.

However, the nature of disability advocacy is such that in our eighteen years of service, we have never even come close to being sued by a claimant. We didn't purchase liability insurance until the tenth year of our business. The decision to purchase insurance is up to you.

Liability insurance for your home business would be extremely wise. You home owners insurance may not cover damage for accidents or equipment in your home that is related to your business entity. Call your home insurance company and ask if you are covered. If not, ask for the price of a raider.
