This outdated
MRFC is used for training purposes only. The principles behind
using the RFC data in a disability claim are the same regardless of
the form. The MRFC or Mental Residual Functional Capacity form is used
internally by Social
Security to
determine the type and severity of functional limitations caused by the claimant's
mental impairment(s). In your capacity as a disability advocate, you'll never
actually fill-out an RFC form. You refer to this form as a
means of determining what mental limitations are
most
relevant to Social Security.
The MRFC form is important because the
mental limitations listed on this form are those
considered by Social Security to have the greatest impact on a claimant's ability to perform work.
Work is action! If the claimant is unable to perform at an
appropriate mental capacity, he's also unable to perform work at
that mental capacity! Social Security considers certain signs and symptoms
to be relevant than others. Emphasizing what is most relevant
to SSA is the easiest roadmap to winning every case you represent.
The form itself tells you what Social Security considers to be
relevant mental restrictions. The links below connect to the
three most
important pages of SSA's Mental RFC form.
